What's new in Crux

Study set editing is now live. Update titles, course links, visibility, and cards from the set page without rebuilding the set from scratch.

Learn mode is now live in Study. Work through adaptive questions with Colby hints, smarter multiple-choice options, and mastery updates as you go.

Improved the UI of a couple of things here and there.

Improved the speed of the app in some cases, initial loads should be faster for some pages.

Crux V3 introduces a full Study tab. Build course-linked study sets, keep them organized in one library, favourite the public sets you want to keep, track mastery, and get a quick digest from Colby showing what needs work most.

Paste in your notes and Colby will turn them into flashcards for you. If you'd rather do it yourself, you can also build a set from scratch.

Study sets can now be shared with a public link. Other people can preview the set, favourite it to save it to their own library, and flip through a free pass before signing in.

Tap Explain on any flashcard to get a quick AI breakdown of what the card means, plus a few extra points when you need more context. Conversations can be continued in your AI chat of choice.

Added a full FAQ page with answers about school support, recommendations, privacy, and what Crux should and should not be used for.

The public site got a big V3 cleanup with a new hero, sharper feature sections, recognition highlights, and an FAQ preview.

Search results now surface better professor context, campus info, and cleaner cards. Mobile navigation also got a new More menu so Study, Planner, GPA tools, and settings are easier to reach.

Fixed a handful of annoying navigation issues, including scroll position getting stuck between pages and the bottom nav showing up when it should stay out of the way during focused study sessions.

Recommended courses now show a rank number and a match label (Top Pick, Strong Match, or Good Match). The algorithm was rebuilt too. It searches by major and interests separately, combines the results, and promotes courses that show up in both lists. The top picks should actually make sense now.

Added an Edit button next to Refresh in the Recommended for You section. Update your interests and the list re-ranks on the spot.

After finishing onboarding, your home screen shows a small checklist with three quick tasks: pick your interests, add a past course, and join a study group. It goes away once you're done or dismiss it.

Course search in onboarding now opens in a proper popup. Press ⌘K or Ctrl+K to open it. Courses you add from search show up in their own section so the checklist stays organized.

Hitting Refresh on recommendations now fades the current list instead of replacing it with skeletons. Your results stay visible while new ones load.

The sidebar now shows a small spinner on links that are taking a moment to load. Only shows up after 250ms so fast navigations aren't affected.

Changing your major, academic year, or interests now clears the recommendations cache immediately. Before this, you'd see outdated picks for up to 30 minutes after updating your profile.

New students can now set their academic path and add likely courses from a quick checklist instead of starting with a blank dashboard.

Interests are now collected on the home page after onboarding so recommendations can improve without slowing down setup.

Profile settings now use the right faculty and major options again, matching the new onboarding flow.

Going forward, some personal information like grades, student number details, and private planner event text will be hidden from direct view in the database. That means the Crux team should no longer be able to casually see those details there.

The Western course database was recently updated to include new courses added over the past two years.

Pages and searches now load significantly faster across the app thanks to under-the-hood performance improvements.

Your faculty, major, and program selections on the Degree Roadmap tab are now saved in the URL. Navigate away and come back without losing your choices!

Improved the course requirementsrecognition functionality to show which courses you have taken and are currently taking.

The grade calculators have been revamped to match the new Crux V2 theme.

Added an in-app notification center with real-time updates. Get notified when someone comments, replies, upvotes, or posts in your study groups.

Added a new schedule planner that allows users to create and manage their schedule. WIP, more coming soon!

Updated the subjects directory with filtering to help users find courses easier. Try it out from the discover page!
